TTG Competition
1. Elimination Round: Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
This is a timed event. The 10 fastest times, plus last year’s winner advance to the finals Sunday. 11 finalists. Time starts when your front tires break the line of the entry gate and ends when the front two tires clear the exit gate. Competitors must follow the course outline and stay within course boundaries, but narrow W. E. Rock style cones with not be utilized. There is no break down/repair time. Driver only course; No spotter permitted.
Competition order will be determined by random drawing of two separate groups: those that have wheeled here previously in Group 1, and those who have never wheeled here in Group 2. Group 1 goes first.
Competitors can watch other competitors in this round. 2. Final Round: Sunday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
There will be one or more courses in the final round. These are more technical courses with time limit.
(1) Time starts when your front tires break the line of the entry gate and ends when either: (a) the front tires clear the exit gate, (b) time maxes out.
(2) To advance from one course to the next you must finish the course in the time allotted.
(3) If you do not complete a course and get a DNF, then you do not advance to the next
course.
(4) If all drivers DNF on a course, then all drivers advance to the next course.
(5) If more than one driver completes all courses, the fastest time wins.
(6) If no one completes the last course, the driver with the furthest forward progress on that
final course wins. This will be marked on course for each rig.
(7) There is no break down/repair time. Driver only course; No spotter permitted.
Fastest completion time or most forward progress on the final course will decide who is Texas’s Top Gun.
Drivers will be required to stage in the holding area, away from the course for this round. No communication with spotters/friends/family/others about the course will be permitted so that each competitor has the same advantage and does not learn from earlier competitor’s lines. Any driver found violating this rule will be automatically disqualified and not permitted to run the course.
Sunday competition order will be determined by Saturday’s times in reverse order. So that people’s choice competitor goes first, and fastest time from Saturday goes last.

Texas Top Gun Shootout Vehicle Safety Rules

Any tire size, any axle configuration, rear steer or drag axle, single or two-seater, and any engine/transmission/t-case configuration is acceptable. Each competitor and team member must sign the Katemcy Rocks Release of Liability prior to entry.
A. Safety Rules:
A minimum four-point harness is required.
Doors or doorbars are required if the door opening is not replaced by permanent tubing of a cage/frame. (See B.10 for bar requirements)
A solid roof above the driver must be in place. (See B.9 for requirements)
A DOT/ SNELL approved helmet must be worn by the driver anytime in the vehicle on- course. No earphones/headsets/communication devises are allowed inside any driver’s helmet
Two (2) fire extinguishers (suitable for extinguishing Class B and C fires) must be installed; located such that they are easily accessible from outside the vehicle. Single use Element E50 style and larger stick fire extinguishers are permitted.
Window nets are highly recommended.
Driver must wear appropriate closed toe shoes (no sandals or bare feet) and an approved fire suit, or at a minimum long-sleeved shirt and full-length pants, 100% cotton.
B. Roll Bars and Cages
Our goal for the roll cage rule is to create a vehicle that is safe and reliable in the event of a roll over. The roll bar must be part of a cage configuration. The cage is considered to be the safety bars surrounding the driver. Cages must be designed to protect the occupant in the event of a rollover and prevent rock intrusion into the driver compartment. The following are a MINIMUM roll cage guidelines for competition:
Six (6) point mounting cages covering the driver are required.
OEM roll bars are approved for a portion of the roll cage.
Round steel tubing (DOM) 1.5” O.D. with 0.120”wall is compulsory for the basic roll cage.
Aluminum and/or soft metals are not permitted. Roll bar construction must be welded with appropriate and satisfactory welds. A Texas Top Gun Shootout official must approve roll cages made out of material other than DOM tubing. Or in wall thickness or diameter less than the stated requirements.
Connection positions of the roll cage must tie to the frame of the vehicle; body mounts are considered a tie-in point.
The roll cage must have appropriate structural cross bracing to prevent collapse from different angles.
The front-most position must be no further toward the rear of the vehicle than 15 inches behind the throttle and brake pedals.
The cage must have space of no wider than 24” above the driver’s head, and at least 1 spreader bar between the front main bar and the rear main bar are required unless the cage top is 24” wide or less.
Gussets must be welded in the four corners of the “halo”. Gussets may be tubing or plate steel.
A minimum of 0.40 magnetic expanded or flat sheet metal, or 1/8“ aluminum, must cover the area immediately over the driver seat and be welded or bolted to the roll cage. Steel tubing must surround the roof panel.
Texas Top Gun Shootout recommends a spreader bar to be mounted under the dash area to connect the right and left “A” pillars.
If the door opening is not enclosed by permanent cage/frame tubing, or if metal doors are not utilized, a bar running from the “B” pillar, at approximately shoulder height, to the “A” pillar, at approximately shin height, must be utilized. This can bolt into place.
A “periscope bar” (a bar sticking straight up from the roll cage) is not allowed.
The cage must allow a minimum of 3” clearance in all directions from the driver’s helmet
with the driver seated and belted into driving position. Clearance to the read of the driver’s head may be less than 3” if the headrest provides adequate support to prevent helmet contact with a diagonal bracing behind the driver’s seat.
